The global total of international development funds was USD 204 B in 2022, which was a 13.6% increase from USD 186 B in 2021.
This increase was mainly attributed to increased spending on processing and hosting refugees within donor countries, which increased 14.4% from USD 12.8 B in 2021 to USD 29.3 B in 2022, as well as the significantly increase aid to Ukraine following Russia’s invasion and ongoing war, which totaled USD 16.1 B. If these "in-donor" refugee costs are excluded, Official Development Assistance (ODA) increased by only 4.6% in 2022.
While global ODA continues to increase, the pool of funds dedicated to "development", that is, excluding emergency and humanitarian assistance has continued to decline. Bilateral ODA to least developed countries (LDCs) and sub-Saharan Africa , in particular, for example, declined declined by 8% in 2022 from USD 32.18 B to 29.67 B.
Judicious use of development funds is therefore a present-day imperative for most development agencies as they seek to obtain the greatest and most sustainable social and environmental impact from the funds available.
Our International Development Agency Support clients are looking to maximise impact and sustainability, and to achieve the highest fund efficiency possible. This is what we work with them to pursue.
All over the world, development organizations are faced with unique circumstances relating to the level of control they are able to efficiently exercise over their projects, and the results they can achieve in the circumstances.
We work with development organizations to provide a complete suite of advisory services on which they can depend to achieve their objectives.
Our work in project assurance aims at the mitigation of risks that could impact development projects, as well the establishment of independent, collaborative project oversight in order to increase the level of confidence with which decisions are made.
By improving the quality, validity and reliability of the knowledge and information our clients use to make decisions, we secure project outcomes at every stage of the project life cycle.
There are known ways by which uncertainties that characterize the future can be reduced and their effect on human undertakings mitigated. The more comprehensive the knowledge on which plans are made, the greater the discipline with which they are executed, the greater the assurance you can have they will derive their intended outcome".
